Visiting the Beaverton Library

Class time is precious; why spend it on a field trip to the library?

(1) Library cards. Your students go to school in Washington County, so they are eligible for a *free* library card that allows them access to reputable databases, computer access, and a vast materials collection. (By the way, you're eligible for a card too.) Give your students an all-access pass to the world of information.

(2) Class projects. We customize all sorts of field trips to address what your class is working on specifically -- no matter what subject you teach. We pull books from the collection, teach your students to use *free* databases, and more! We even take the time to discuss that always relevant question: how do you know if that online information is credible and trustworthy? Give yourself the gift of a "Works Cited" list that contains reputable sources.

(3) Orientation. The library is an interesting place. Really, it is. For example, did you know that we check in 5,000-9,000 items a day? Your class can have a chance to see how it all works behind the scenes, plus the opportunity to get to know their young adult librarians and explore the collections. Give your class the gift of familiarity and ease-of-use for the public library.

(4) Lifelong learning. When your students graduate one day, where will they go for information? How will they continue that habit of reading? The public library is only place that they'll find a free, welcoming environment that grows with them throughout all stages of life. Give yourself some of peace of mind by sending young adults into the world with the habit of library use.

(5) The wiggles. I don't care how old you get: the wiggles don't magically disappear once you graduate out of storytime! Give your students the gift of letting their brains breathe, their bodies move, and their attitudes soar through an interesting, free field trip customized to their needs.

Give us a call in the Young Adult Room (503-350-4001) to set-up your field trip. We would love to get to know you and your class!
