Dawn Borgardt
Senior Youth Services Librarian

Dawn Borgardt

Dawn dreamed of being a Teen Services Librarian from her second day of library school.  Her first day of library school at University of Maryland was really confusing, so it took until the second day to realize that her YA Lit class was the BEST THING EVER.  Luckily, she now spends her days at the Beaverton City Library buying fiction for the YA collection, scheming up great programs with the Teen Library Council, visiting classes to talk about books, and searching for that next great read.  Her favorites include: The Luxe series by Anna Godbersen, anything by A.S. King, Gary Schmidt, Sherman Alexie, Sarah Dessen, Libba Bray, M.T. Anderson, and on and on.  She’s a sucker for realistic fiction that packs a punch and historical fiction with great settings. Before returning to the west coast, she worked at the Washington County Free Library in Maryland.

Ian Duncanson

Ian grew up in the Midwest, where his mom took him to the library multiple times per week, fostering his interest in books and libraries before he could talk. He has been at the BCL for over five years and thinks that youth fiction is one of the most interesting ‘genres’ going today. Prior to this, he served as a librarian in Philadelphia. He received his MLS from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, where he also
studied English, journalism, and German in his
undergraduate years.

Ian’s favorite genres include science fiction, horror, realistic graphic novels, and anything that
requires a box of tissues during and after reading. His favorite YA authors include John Green, Benjamin Alire Sáenz, A.S. King, Francisco X. Stork, Cory Doctorow, Melina Marchetta, Libba Bray, Mal Peet, and far too many others to list.
