Libraries & Information Literacy

The New York Times recently ran an article about libraries in the Internet age. More specifically, it stresses the need for modern librarians to act as information filters for students, helping them evaluate the veracity of Web content. As mentioned in the article, an entertaining exercise in spotting Web misinformation is available at http://allaboutexplorers.com/.

Students are often unaware that there are online resources beyond Google, such as the WCCLS periodical databases, which can be accessed with a library card on their home or school computers. We are happy to schedule times for your class to come into the library for mini database and information literacy instructionals, tailoring them to a specific class project or group of databases! If you are interested in bringing your class for a database instruction session, please contact us at (503) 350-4001. Keep an eye on this blog for profiles of databases and Web sites that can help your students with class projects!
