Acrostic Poetry Contest

Twice each school year, we run literary contests for middle schoolers and high schoolers. In the fall, we focus on short stories. In the spring, we focus on poetry. And we all know what's coming next month... National Poetry Month!

Throughout April 2009, we will be holding the Acrostic Poetry Contest. Students are invited to submit up to 4 acrostic poems to the contest, which will be judged in 2 categories: middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12). The poems must be entirely original and their own work. If you want guidelines & details, let us know! (We will be sending guidelines/entries forms to all local English teachers.)

The most amazing part of this year's contest is that the Beaverton Library Foundation is partnering with BCL Young Adult Division to provide fantastic prizes. First place in each category will receive $100; second place in each category will receive $50; and third place in each category will receive $25.

Encourage your students to participate -- and let us know what we can do to help YOU celebrate National Poetry Month!
