National Poetry Month - Limerick Contest and Coffeehouse Open Mic

This month is National Poetry Month, and the BCL is once again encouraging your students to get creative with a new poetry contest and coffeehouse open mic! This year's selected form is the Limerick - a simple, humorous, five-line poem with an AABBA rhyme scheme!

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Library Foundation, we are offering three prizes for each grade range (6-8 and 9-12):

First Prize - $100
Second Prize - $50
Third Prize - $25

Please encourage any budding poets in your midst to submit their Limericks! The deadline for entries is Friday, April 30, 2010. Complete rules and an entry form can be downloaded in PDF format here!

This year's poetry open mic coffeehouse will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in Meeting Room B here at the library! Beaverton's own Ava Roasteria will once again be providing both regular and decaf coffee and pastries! Tea and juice will be available for the non-coffee drinkers. In the past, teachers have allowed their students to use this event to fulfill a public poetry reading requirement for class.
