Welcome back!

It's the week before school starts again, which means that teachers are preparing classrooms and parents are eagerly anticipating the return of academic routine. At the library, the Teen Summer Reading Program 2010 was a record-breaking success... we can hardly believe it's finished already!

As you look ahead at the next few weeks, keep the upcoming celebrations in mind. The main Beaverton City Library building is turning 10 years old, which means we have all sorts of shenanigans in place. Some that your teens may love are...
  • TEEN READ-IN: Saturday, Sept. 11, 12-4 p.m. Students in grades 6-12 are invited to drop in for this reading marathon in the YA Room. Read whatever you like, chat with friends, sprawl in bean bag chairs, and possibly win giftcard prizes for participating!

  • TOWN HALL WITH ABRAHAM LINCOLN: Saturday, Sept. 11, 2 p.m. Portland actor Steve Holgate will portray landmark president Abraham Lincoln in this town hall event. Ask any questions you like about his life, presidency, and thoughts... Honest Abe has an answer for them all!

  • THEATER GAMES: Sunday, Sept. 12, 2 p.m. Students can brush off those dramatic skills in this participatory improv workshop with the Beaverton Civic Theater!

  • TEEN SCREENZ MATINEE: Thursday, Sept. 16, 4 p.m. Students can kick back after school with a teen-friendly movie in the auditorium. Hint: Cheer on this classic group of friends from Astoria in their hunt for pirate treasure!
