Summer Hiatus / Teen Fiction Controversy

Greetings, and happy last day of school!
The blog will once again be hitting summer hiatus until next school year. In the meantime, we'll be busy with all of our fantastic summer reading contest and programming!
I leave you with a bit of food for thought that has left the teen fiction community abuzz - a recent editorial in the Wall Street Journal argues that fiction written for teens has simply grown too dark. Obviously, there are good arguments to be made on both sides of the issue. NPR has a good, even-handed discussion via transcript here, and many of the big names in teen lit (Sherman Alexie, Jay Asher, etc.) have weighed in. Run "Wall Street Journal Teen Fiction" through a Google news search to find many of the online discussions and editorials.
Have a great summer! See you next school year!
