Anti-Bullying Program for grades 3-7

Please pass the word on to your 3rd-7th graders, we're going to host another Anti-Bullying program at the library on January 23rd. Here are the details.

Anti-bullying Program Monday, January 23, 2012, 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm Kids, want to learn how to tackle the problem of bullying? Celebrate No Name Calling Week by learning solutions with activities, tips, and resources. handouts for parents will also be available, but this program is just for kids. Grades 3-7.

And while we are on the topic of bullying and creating empathy for people who are targeted by bullies, I have read two fantastic fiction books recently where bullying is a prominent theme - I highly reccomend both:

Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King
Overburdened by his parents' bickering and a bully's attacks, fifteen-year-old Lucky Linderman begins dreaming of being with his grandfather, who went missing during the Vietnam War, but during a visit to Arizona, his aunt and uncle and their beautiful neighbor, Ginny, help him find a new perspective. (recommended for grades 9 +)

A Monster Calls by Patrick NessThirteen-year-old Conor awakens one night to find a monster outside his bedroom window, but not the one from the recurring nightmare that began when his mother became ill--an ancient, wild creature that wants him to face truth and loss. (recommended for grades 7+)
