Tween Recommendation: Liar & Spy by Rebecca Stead

This book is great!  It has lots of humor and fun, but also tells the real story of Brooklyn 7th-grader Georges (named after Seurat the painter) who has to move from his childhood home to an apartment.  On his first day in the new place, Georges joins what he thinks is a spy club, which leads to all sorts of fun and curious adventures with his neighbors Safer and Candy (you'll find out why the unusual names when you read the book!).  Georges also gets picked on at school, but hatches an ingenious plan one day to band together with other misfits and rise above the bullies (Go Team Blue!).  There is a serious revelation at the end that will endear readers even more to Georges and his family.  This a great book for readers who like Gary Schmidt's books and who liked Rebecca Stead's Newbery Medal winner When You Reach Me.
