Libraries in this economy

Economic downturn is always a bit scary, and it often leaves most people wondering how they can keep their jobs and save a little money... which looks different for everyone. The question is: what does this mean to you as an educator?

It probably means a lot of things, but the part we're excited about is how the public library can continue supporting your efforts. Our library collection continues to grow every month, providing a rich plethora of electronic and print research materials for you and your students. Ian and I still host school visits to the library as well as going out to your classrooms, where we share great new books and research tips. The library forges gloriously ahead with educational and recreational programs for teens, including college prep and the annual Teen Art Show (late February). Homework helpers faithfully come in each week, ready to help students with confusion or problems in their homework. And as always, our computers are getting more and more use for free Internet access and school projects!

As you arrange your curriculum for the remainder of the year, remember that the public library is your place for free materials, research, and activities. Want to learn more? Check out this article for further ideas!
