An Artistic Month

As I'm wandering about, checking off today's to-do list, I am shocked to discover that we haven't posted about the artistic month we have underway! For those of you who engage with your students through visual arts, enjoy. (And for those of you who engage with your students through poetry, stay tuned for April's poetry contest!)

February's contest is the TSRP Art Contest. Every year, we challenge students in grades 6-12 to create the art for our teen summer reading program [TSRP]. The winner of this contest will receive a $50 prize and the public acclaim of having his or her artwork used on all BCL TSRP promotional materials, including posters and handouts. The theme this year is Express Yourself @ Your Library. Submissions are due by 5pm on Saturday, 2/28. To download a submission form with complete guidelines, click here.

February also marks the grand opening of the 7th Annual Teen Art Show at BCL! Following the close of the Beaverton Art Commission's show, teens are invited to submit their own artwork for display at the Teen Art Show. Whether it be photography, sculpture, drawing, or more, we are excited to see artwork created in all mediums. Submissions will be accepted Monday, 2/23, through Wednesday, 2/25 in the Young Adult Room. The show will open (with refreshments!) on Saturday, 2/28, and remain open for viewing until Sunday, 3/8.
