Random (but Important!) Information

The Acrostic Poetry Contest ends on Thursday, April 30th. If you are dropping off submissions for your students, be sure to swing by before the library closes at 9pm. We've already seen some great stuff coming across the desk, so we're thrilled to start reading the whole stack.

If you have Percy Jackson fans in your classroom, you should know that we're holding a book release party next Tuesday at 6pm. The Last Olympian, the fifth and final book of Percy's adventures, will hit the shelves on May 5th. We plan to celebrate with blue food and drink, costume and trivia contests, toilet paper togas, and more! Students will have the chance to win their own copies of the newest book.

It's almost May, which means that it is almost time to start talking about the Teen Summer Reading Program [TSRP]! As always, this free program is open to all incoming 6th-12th graders. Expect an email from Ian or myself soon about what's happening this summer, where to get informational materials, and possibly opening up your classroom for a quick TSRP visit.

Swine flu has become a topic of concern nationwide, particularly for folks like us who work in public settings. If you would like more information about it, visit the Center for Disease Control website. It includes statistics about the recent outbreaks (none in Oregon yet), symptoms, and methods for prevention. It never hurts to pass along that gentle reminder to our students to keep washing hands... especially before and after using the computers! ;)
