Welcome back!

Over the summer, your students participated in the summer reading programs in record numbers. Over 4000 children and over 1500 teenagers -- how fantastic! :) We saw students from almost every public and private school in the area, not to mention our enthusiastic homeschool participants. I will miss having our teens around all day, but luckily that means that we will be working with you again as the school year progresses.

The question is... what can we do for you this year?

As you ponder your answer, here is a list of hotly anticipated new teen books that will be hitting the shelves this autumn. Everyone from Suzanne Collins (author of The Hunger Games) and Scott Leviathan (author of the Uglies series) is jumping into the fray. Get yourself and your students on those holds lists!

Catching Fire (9/1/2009)
by Suzanne Collins

With the Capitol watching Katniss' and Peeta's every move, can they rise above suspicion and keep District 12 safe? This second book in the Hunger Games trilogy will knock your socks off with conspiracy, adventure, and chapters with such fantastic cliffhangers that you absolutely can't stop reading.

by Gennifer Choldenko

In Al Capone Does My Shirts, Mr. Capone may have done a little favor for Moose's family (which lives on the Alcatraz island). Now he wants Moose to do a little favor for him in return. Uh oh.

by L. A. Meyer

In another installment in the Bloody Jack series (circa Dickensian London), our favorite street urchin turned cabin boy turned lady has been kidnapped by the British government AGAIN -- this time for a treasure hunt for Spanish gold.

Fire (10/5/2009)
by Kristin Cashore

Cashore returns to the world she created in Graceling in this prequel with a new cast of characters and all of the intrigue and adventure you already love.

Leviathan (10/6/2009)
by Scott Westerfeld

Westerfeld is launching a new series! In this revisionist history set in the 1800s, the British Darwinists and the German Clankers take the evolution debate to a whole new level: war throughout Europe using genetically-hybrid animals and steam-driven iron robots.

Dog Days (10/12/2009)
by Jeff Kinney

In Diary of a Wimpy Kid #4, Greg Heffley is about to take on every middle school video gamer's worst summer vacation nightmare: a mom insisting on vacation and family togetherness.

Front and Center (10/19/2009)

by Catherine Murdock

In the final book in the acclaimed Dairy Queen trilogy, D. J. returns to her first love: basketball. What she doesn't count on is the fact that everyone is watching: college scouts, her coach, her family... and stupid, idiotic, football-crazy Brian Nelson.

by Nancy Farmer

In this conclusion to the Sea of Trolls trilogy, Jack must discover where his true future lies (and we're guessing it isn't with the monks, the Vikings, or the dastardly elves).
