New Book - Ask the Passengers by A.S. King

A.S. King's Ask the
Passengers comes
out Oct. 23rd
Ask the Passengers is A.S. King's third book and like her previous two (Please Ignore Vera Deitz, 2010 and Everybody Sees the Ants, 2011), it features a truly brave and honest protagonist.  The main character Astrid is busy helping her best friend stay ‘in the closet’  while discovering that in so many ways (including the big one), she’s really in the closet too.  As her story develops, Astrid learns how to love herself and to be honest about who she loves.  Throughout the book, she ‘sends her love’ to airplane passengers as they fly overhead.  King gives little glimpses into the lives of the passengers who ‘receive’ her love and these interludes add a certain empathy to the story that I found really heart-warming.  All in all a beautifully told story that is honest and still makes you feel good as a reader.  A tough accomplishment and a fabulous trait in a story!  I would recommend this for high schoolers who like a good realistic read.
